FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Question:
I use/need Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at work how come these aren’t on the computer that I purchased?
Answer:
The programs listed above are popular productivity and business programs that are not part of the operating system you purchased but are actually part of a suite that sells separately. You can find more information here or purchase from online sources here.
Question:
I looked into purchasing the Microsoft Office Suite and found that it is really expensive is there a more inexpensive alternative?
Answer:
Yes. There is free software which does most or all of the same things and allows you to open/save files to the same formats as Microsoft Office. It is OpenOffice (click on the link).
Question:
I want to buy an inexpensive used inkjet/fax machine how come you don’t usually offer them as part of the sale?
Answer:
Inkjet printers are essentially disposable because they are so inexpensive when purchased new. The costs of consumables (ink and parts which suffer from wear and tear) are in most cases more expensive than an entire new unit. New inkjet printers are so inexpensive when purchased new it does not make financial sense for us to pay someone to test, clean and repackage a printer that can only sell for a small fraction of the low, low price of a new one.
Question:
Why am I paying significantly less for the computer than I am for the software (Operating System) – that doesn’t make sense?
Answer:
That is a really good question! You can contact Microsoft about that. The real answer is that most people are familiar with Microsoft Products and are willing to pay. There are other products out there that are every bit as good and are completely free, but since people are less familiar with them they tend to reject them because they perceive them as being inferior (because they are free) more information here. In the past the alternatives to using Microsoft Products had a steep learning curve, didn’t easily support all types of hardware and didn’t fully support a graphical interface. That is not true anymore the public has not for the most part realized this.
Question:
How come there aren’t any used monitors offered in this sale?
Question:
Only a small percentage of all of the monitors that we receive pass our rigorous testing which includes a cosmetic evaluation of monitors and a video exerciser which cycles through all of the standard video settings and makes sure there aren’t any problems after continuous use (1-2 hours). We believe it is best not to sell a monitor if we can’t be certain it will make you happy. Over 50% of the monitors that we ship don't work when they get to the customer. Monitors tend to be too fragile to ship unless you have specifically designed/custom packing inserts which we don't typically have.
Question:
Where can I get a used monitor?
Answer:
You could go to eBay or a computer resale store in your area. Or you could purchase an inexpensive new monitor. Be very suspicious if you are having it shipped in something other than its original packaging!
Question:
How do I install an operating system?
Answer:
see this document
Question:
Why not offer a new battery?/Why sell laptops with a used battery?
Laptop batteries are very expensive in some cases as expensive or more expensive than the used laptop. This may be the reason the businesses choose to retire them. The laptops that we sell can be expected to hold a charge only for a short time. If you use the laptop on A/C power this won't be a problem.
Check the cost of various laptop batteries here of course you will need the battery specific to the laptop you own. In most cases it is best to buy it from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) but other less expensive alternatives may also be good.
Question:
Does my Desktop or Tower Computer include a power cable, keyboard and mouse?
Yes, we include a power cable, keyboard and mouse with all of the desktops and towers that we sell. We make every effort to use new in box keyboards and mice but the dynamic nature of our inventory is such that this is not always possible. Please consider that you may only receive a used keyboard, mouse and power cord.
Question:
I got a Dell brand computer and a Compaq keyboard and mouse will they still work together?
Yes, the brand name for the keyboards, mice (and monitors you may already have) won't matter because they connect to the computer using industry standard ports (USB, P/S 2, or SVGA). These are the same on all computers that we offer for sale.
Question:
How come a message comes up every time I navigate to/from pages on the website?

Answer:
This message is sent from your browser and is just alerting you that all of the items on the page are not secured. The only items on the page that aren't secured are the images. If you want to test this simple click "no" and the items that don't load are the "insecure" items this should be the images. You will have to click "yes" to continue to the next page. Your address bar should look something like below "note HTTPS" in the address.
